Prescription Ski/Snowboard Goggles FAQs

Can you get prescription ski goggles?

Yes, you can! The difficulty for prescription ski goggles is that while normal glasses are straight a ski goggle is curved. Our prescription ski goggles are unique in that sense since they are integrated into the interior lens of the ski goggle. This means that it does not work with an insert. The way we tackle this curvature is by having a 3D-shaped holder that brings the optical glasses towards the eye while also making them stand straight concerning the eyes. In contrast to other solutions that work with an insert.

hy do I need a prescription ski & snowboard goggle?

A lot of people wear glasses. Especially on the ski slopes, it is advised to wear them as well. Skiing remains a sport and optimal vision is very important to reduce the risk of injuries. As in any sport, safety is very important here and is supported by all relevant authorities.

Is it possible to have a correction for astigmatism?

Yes, it is! We can correct for a range of diopters as well as astigmatism. The cylinder of our glasses that corrects for astigmatism can be between -2 and +2 for standard glasses. Outside of this range, we have to custom order these glasses and they will be more expensive. We see that a lot of the orders we process are also from people with astigmatism.

Why do I need prescription snow goggles when I only ski-i good weather?

A very high percentage of all ski accidents are due to visibility issues. If you need glasses and do not use prescription glasses while skiing, your 3-dimensional vision can be significantly reduced. In other words, it's hard to predict the combination of speed, distance, type of snow and other skiers' movements without wearing your glasses, even in fine weather. This means that skiing without a correction, in any condition, can lead to accidents that could yourself and or other people.

Where can I find the prescription for my snow goggle lenses?

When ordering your ski or snowboard goggles on Eyewear UK we need your latest optical prescription. If it has been a while since you had a prescription or if you are not sure which strengths you need, we recommend that you get a new prescription from your ophthalmologist or optician. This way, you can be sure that you will be able to enjoy your Eyewear UK goggles for a long time to come.

Why is an Eyewear UK snow goggle so unique?

The technology we use at Eyewear UK is unique. Therefore it offers a great alternative to people with glasses who go skiing. The reason why our goggle is unique is that it is integrated into the snow goggle. This means it is not a clip or insert. Instead, the goggle is made with a double lens system of which the second lens is also a holder for the optical correction. The double lens system also decreases the likelihood of fogging since an isolation layer of air is formed between the outside and inside of the goggle. Furthermore, it is a unique concept since it comes towards the eye and decreases the distance to your glasses. This is also one of the reasons why our optical range is so big (+8 to -8).

Where can I buy an Eyewear UK prescription ski or snowboard goggle?

Today you can order our goggles online through our webshop. We do ask for a prescription because every pair of goggles is custom made. You will receive your customized goggles within 12 working days. This delivery period is slightly longer because every pair of glasses goes through our professional hands. Eyewear UK snow goggles offer an optical range of -8 to +8.

Why do I need the anti-fog coating?

The direct integration of prescription lenses in your ski mask normally solves this problem. Nevertheless, the main issue is the level of humidity under your ski goggles. It is therefore recommended to include the anti-fog coating as this will only amplify the anti-fog performance of our solution. Our patented snow goggle has been designed for over 4 years and represents the best combination of visibility and fog-free performance. With an integrated insert that acts as an isolation layer, it offers a unique and patented technology.

What is the Eyewear UK ski goggle made from?

The outside lens is made from NXT, making it crash resistant and thus very durable. In addition to that is the lens photochromic, which means it adapts itself to the light intensity and then becomes lighter or darker. The strap is adjustable in length and has an anti-slip silicone layer on it so it stays in position. The glasses inside the insert are made of polycarbonate to ensure maximal protection for your eyes. Finally, the goggle will be delivered in a special bag that can be used for cleaning as well.

Do you make the Eyewear UK ski goggles with bifocal or progressive lenses?

Both bifocal and progressive lenses are possible with our goggles! This is because our holder is shaped like a frame for glasses. Both of these lenses can be very handy if you still want to read your plan or the messages on your phone.

Is it possible to upload or mail my prescription?

Yes is it! You can either send us an email directly (info@eyewearuk.com) or indicate it as one of the options while ordering.

What do all the numbers on my prescription mean?

The prescription lenses are made using numbers that specify the types of correction needed and the magnitude of them.

The main numbers on your prescription are corrections for farsightedness (hyperopia, +) or nearsightedness (myopia, -), and astigmatism (or some combination of these). The farther the number is from zero (above or below), the stronger your prescription is (excluding the axis measurement). Finally, the pupil distance (PD) is mentioned, this is important since this will be used to match up your pupils with the optical centre of lenses.
The cylinder and axis are the parameters used to define astigmatism. Axis is the degree measurement, between 0 and 180, that the cylinder is turned, the cylinder is the strength of astigmatism.

It is important to include an axis since the cylinder must be rotated in a specific direction to counteract astigmatism. For the sphere no direction is needed, only the power of it is of importance.
